AEW Wrestler Darby Allin Recalls Suffering Brain Haemorrhage After Sickening In-ring Accident

All Elite Wrestling star Darby Allin has recalled the moment he suffered a brain haemorrhage on the independent scene when he smacked his head doing a dive.

The resident AEW daredevil was facing Joey Janela in a match in New Orleans and went for a suicide dive, but things took a very nasty turn as he hit what he’s now described as his ‘sketchiest bump’.

Speaking to Robbie Fox on My Mom’s Basement, he said: ‘[Joey] was in the match where I had took my sketchiest bump I would say is I had him in New Orleans and he was sitting in a chair outside the ring and I did a running dive where I do a front flip halfway through the dive.

‘But I put the chair too far and you know, the independents, they’re cheap asses. They don’t wanna put the padding around the ring so my ankles caught him but my head bounced off the concrete and I just started feeling like everything was swelling.

‘And then after the match, because I finished the match, afterwards I went to the hospital and they’re saying, “Yo, you’re bleeding from the brain”, and I was like, “F**k!” So like, yeah.’

He explained how the medical professionals ‘monitored’ the situation, and while he can’t remember the exact details, he wasn’t able to wrestler for ‘two months’.

He added: ‘I went under for I can’t remember how long but then they were just — dude, I don’t know. They did something where they monitored it.

‘I can’t even remember the full procedure but I couldn’t wrestle for like two months. It was like you can break my ankle, you can break my arm but you start messing with (my) brain – oh, that’s the worst.

‘It’s the worst. I remember I got home and I wasn’t able to drive but I felt so on edge just sitting in my room.’

Today, as a key member of the AEW roster, Darby appears alongside the hottest new talent and legends from the past, as he gets to learn from the likes of Jake Roberts, Arn Anderson, Dean Malenko and on-screen mentor Sting, while staying true to himself.

‘I’ve been trusting my own instincts since I got there. But that doesn’t mean that Jake “The Snake” can’t give a good pointer or all these guys can’t help you tweak your game,’ he exclusively told Metro.co.uk over the summer.

‘If you go in there thinking your s**t don’t stink or you can’t learn anything new then you’re sadly mistaken and you’re in the wrong game!’

Darby is part of a new generation and has his own unique, hellraising and thrillseeking style where he’s willing to risk everything for the win.

‘What’s scary to somebody else is a walk in the park for me. My tolerance for fear is very, very, very high – so [the old generation] don’t have to worry,’ he smiled.
