What is a ‘baked snack’ actually? (Picture: Rex / Getty)
Yes, we’ve got another heated food debate on our hands – this time it’s all about one of the nation’s favourite ‘baked snacks’.
The true nature of Mini Cheddars has been called into question, as it seemed there’s been no true consensus on whether they’re biscuits, crackers or crisps.
Described as ‘baked snacks’ in a lot of branded content, there’s plenty of room for interpretation.
They share definite traits of both biscuits and crackers but are often found in the crisp section of the supermarket.
Housemates Lauren Hurrell, 25, Dany Levinson and Eva Botha, both 24, put their heads together and ended up doing an Instagram poll in Lauren’s stories on the subject, asking followers: ‘Are Mini Cheddars crisps or crackers (there is a correct answer).’
They found that, at least among Lauren’s followers, 71% chose crackers over crisps.

Unsatisfied with this answer, Dany reached out to Mini Cheddars’ parent company United Biscuits for more information, but all they got in reply was further confirmation that Mini Cheddars are simply a ‘baked snack’.
In a bid to get to the bottom of this once and for all, Metro.co.uk got in touch with Good Relations, a PR company that works with Jacob’s and Mini Cheddars, and they helped shed a bit more light on the matter.

Through them, Abbie Pollington, Brand Manager at Mini Cheddars, told us: ‘As a mini version of our classic Cheddar biscuits, we call them Cheese Snack biscuits.
‘We stir real cheese into the dough before baking them (never fried!), as you would a biscuit, until golden.
‘However, as people often eat our bigger brother with cheese, as you would a cracker, and our mini versions are served in a bag as well as being found alongside crisps in the supermarket aisle, we can see how people may strongly feel they should be referred to as crackers or crisps.’
So there you have it.
As diplomatic an answer as this may be, someone in the know has spoken, and Mini Cheddars are indeed biscuits.
